How Life Choices Foundation Transforms Lives

Life Choices Foundation is an organization dedicated to helping teenagers, inmates, detainees and members of other vulnerable groups to take charge of their lives and make decisions that promote success. The focus of our popular presentations and programs is to assist and direct borne out of a desire to support and give guidance to those who need it most.
Life Choices Foundation, through our evidence-based programs, has the following aims:
1. We seek to challenge and inspire teens and adults to understand the consequences of important life choices.
2. We encourage teens and adults to understand their own self-worth and choose a path that is right for them.
3. We aim to inspire teens and adults to stand firm in the face of difficult situations and negative influences, and challenge them to leave the past behind and make better choices moving forward.
I’ve been here 30 years and he (Andrew Fisher) has been here 20 minutes and we are blown away by what we have seen. The positive reaction from the inmates was just amazing. We have never seen them listen and engage like that.” Manager, Townsville Correctional Centre.

How is Life Choices Foundation different from other foundations?

Life Choices Foundation programs and training courses have been carefully constructed using a combination of personal experiences, information from research, and current statistics. Each particular program is presented by someone who has had experiences that directly relate to that topic. For example, “Unlock Your Olympian Mindset” is conducted by Eloise Wellings, a two-time Olympic athlete, and Rory Darkins, a high-performance coach& psychology researcher.  Brett Murray, the presenter of “Make Bullying History”, suffered from bullying and knows the long-term effects from personal experience. He has also conducted years of research into the reasons for bullying, the effects of bullying, and the various ways of dealing with it.

“This presentation was very moving and made everyone truly realize that this is a situation where people are taking their lives and it needs to stop. Make Bullying History!” – Student, Queensland.

Secondly, the programs have been refined over the years to resonate more strongly with the target audience, and to engage them more completely. Empowering the audience is the true aim of all the programs. Knowledge comes through understanding, and each presenter brings home their individual messages in a powerful and confronting way. The audience are made to question, to reflect, but ultimately, to gain the necessary strength to say “No” to anything that doesn’t add to their life in a positive, beneficial way.  This purpose written presentation sees Life Choices Ambassador, Andrew "Fishtail" Fisher, talk to Year 7 students about emotions they may be feeling or thinking and issues they may be facing as they become a small fish in a much bigger high school pond. Andrew challenges the students to think about how their lives have recently changed and what mindset they'll choose in their high school career.

“It was informational, educational, and uplifting. It explored themes that are sometimes difficult to come to terms with, in a way that doesn’t get too dark, but does not provide false information” – Student, NSW

A review of the programs.

Life Choices Foundation offers 5 life-changing programs, with some of the programs now available online and via live & interactive Zoom sessions. Let’s preview each one and take a look at what previous participants have said about them.

The Life Choices Program

This program works to change the alarmingly low figures on teenage well-being and happiness by tackling subjects that Year 8 to 12 students often encounter. These subjects include self-image, self-control, addictive behaviors, values and beliefs, social comparison, and community awareness. The main aim of this program is to equip adolescents with the tools to make better decisions regarding the many difficult choices they are confronted with throughout their teen years, including standing up to negative peer group pressure and learning to say “No”.

“Worthwhile, informative, relates well to young people. Engaging for the students, great summary of what they have covered in their Mind matters program over the last 2 years.  Great use of statistics to make it real to the students.” – Year 8 advisor, NSW.

It’s Your Life Program

This program helps inmates and detainees to understand that mistakes made in the past are better off left in the past. Whatever has happened previously in their lives should have no influence over their present or future. There is always an opportunity to change the legacy they leave behind. Hard-hitting and engaging, this is a program praised equally by inmates and guards.

“It was motivational, powerful, and inspiring. I think that the current content is perfect!” - Management, Wolston Correctional Centre.

Unlock Your Olympian Mindset

You don’t need to be an athlete to benefit from an Olympian mindset. The dedication, resilience, focus and determination required to reach the top of any sporting field is just as useful in reaching any goal – even the normal, everyday ones.

“This was exactly what I needed. Found a direction of where I want to start.” – Student, NSW.

Make Bullying History

Bullying leaves permanent emotional and psychological scars, but it is something that is often difficult to deal with. This Life Choices Foundation program helps both students and teachers understand more about the effects of bullying, how to identify it and what to do about it.

“Great presentation that was moving from the use of real-life examples. Could have been improved with having the students physically interact with the program, but the talk was among the best I have heard re: bullying.” – Teacher, QLD.

Year 7 “Is This For Real?”

This Life Choices Foundation presentation covers important choices the students will face in terms of their high school journey and the benefits of choosing a pathway that has support from their friends & family as opposed to a journey that carries greater risk. The program links back to the fact that we are the sum of the influences and experiences of our lives, and students need to stop & consider what affect their choices may be having on their happiness and well-being.

“It has a lot of good information and talks about a lot of useful things that you should take with you for the rest of the high school journey.” – Student NSW.
